Nicolas De Lenfent (also known as Nicki) was Lestat's best friend with whom he travelled to Paris. He abandoned his law studies to play the violin studying under Mozart, much to his father's fury. They then joined the theatre, with Lestat acting and Nicolas playing the violin. These were happy days.

Nicki was distraught when Lestat disappeared for a long time and horrified when his friend returned as a newly born vampire with inherited wealth from Magnus. His relationship with Lestat deteriorated rapidly after Lestat bought the theatre.

Armand and his vampire coven abducted Nicolas to lure Lestat to them. Being imprisoned by vampires effected him really badly and his mental state became questionable. When Lestat gave him the Dark Gift so they would become closer, Nicolas rejected him, much to Lestat's dismay and chose to remain with Armand's coven.

Shortly after, Nicolas insisted that Lestat give the theatre over to the coven (The Theatré De Vampires) he threw himself into the fire. Lestat inherited his Stradivarius violin
