The Vampire KHAYMAN

Name: Khayman, also known as Benjamin The Devil
Age: Over 6,000 years old. The 3rd vampire of The First Brood
From: Kemet, Ancient Egypt
Mortal death: Was made a vampire against his will
Maker: Akasha & Enkil
Fledglings: Mekare and many un-named others
Books he appeared in: 'The Queen of the Damned'

Khayman was the loyal steward and chief soldier of Queen Akasha and King Enkil. He reluctantly followed their orders to rape Maharet and Mekare in front of the royal court. He fathered Maharet's daughter, Mirium.

This rape infuriated the spirit, Amel, who tormented Khayman's household until Akasha and Enkil intervened. This resulted in the King and Queen becoming vampires and Khayman witnessed their transformation.

When the torture of the twins continued (Maharet's eyes were taken and Mekare's tongue was ripped out), Khayman, who was mortified at their cruel treatment, visited them the night before their impending execution. He was extremely upset and angry because Akasha and Enkil forced the Dark Gift on him against his will. He offered to make Maharet and Mekare vampires to give them a chance of survival and revenge. Mekare made her decision almost instantly and she became Khayman's first fledgling. Mekare then made her sister a vampire.

He helped the twins escape from their prison but Akasha and Enkil's army recaptured them at Saqqara, but Khayman escaped.

We never heard from him again until 1985 when he reappeared for Lestat's concert. His past, to him was a mystery. He knew he went into the earth at numerous times. He couldn't even remember his name or his age. Khayman spent a lot of his long life being extremely lonely and longing for a companion. It was only until he caught a glimpse of Akasha before the concert that he remembered his past. He felt much anger against Akasha.

Sadly, when he approached other immortals they were frightened of his appearance. They could sense he was ancient by his marble-like appearance and power. He offered friendship and love but was rejected. As immortals ran from him, he accidentally destroyed them, just by the power of thought. This was unintentional and upset him severely.

At the concert, Khayman searched the crowd for other immortals, and found Armand, Mael, Louis and Gabrielle. They offered no friendship either.

Poor Khayman.
