CHRONICLES TRIVIA Name: Gabrielle de Lioncourt, The Marquise Age: Over 200 years old. Born in 1730 From: Naples, Italy, moved to L'Auvergne, France Mortal death: In the latter years of her life, Gabrielle was plagued with illness. She came to Paris to say farewell to Lestat before she chose to become a vampire in 1780 Maker: Her son, Lestat Books she appeared in: 'The Vampire Lestat', 'The Queen of the Damned' Appearing in 'The Queen of the Damned Movie'? No Gabrielle, moved to L'Auvergne, France to marry The Marquis de Lioncourt to live in Le Chateau de Lioncourt. She had 7 children (all sons I think) but only 3 survived to adulthood. She loathed living in the castle and had little respect for her husband and sons - apart from her favourite, Lestat, her youngest. Gabrielle felt a special bond with Lestat. She felt that he was the same as her, only the male equivalent. She hated being a female because she felt extremely weak and restricted by her delicate frame. It soon became apparent that she was dying. Plagued by illness, loneliness and frustration, Gabrielle encouraged Lestat, to venture out to the city with his friend Nicolas and seek adventure (something she would have loved to do herself). Death was only a whisper away for her when she visited him for the supposed last time in Paris. Lestat now a fledgling vampire, gave his mother the Dark Gift and she took it willingly without hesitation. Almost instantly, she was released her from her feminine weaknesses and illness. Gabrielle relished her new vibrant vampire body. Her change in personality was also instant - she now had the freedom and the strength to live the way she wanted. The first thing she did was cut her long hair but it grew back overnight, much to her disappointment (one of the symptoms of being a vampire - you cannot change your appearance from the moment you die). Instead she tied her long hair back and dressed in less restricting men's clothes. She lived as Lestat's companion (and some would say, lover) for 10 years and travelled with him across the world. Gabrielle was very much a loner. She even chose to abandon her coffin to see if she could survive in the earth alone. More and more, she left Lestat for long periods of time. Gabrielle discovered that if a mortal interrupted her sleep during the day, she would kill them instantly although she was comatosed. From 1790 she became distant and restless, and chose to abandon her son to live a new solitary life in the jungles of Africa. This upset Lestat greatly - it was important for him to have a companion. In 1984, Gabrielle appeared at Lestat's concert much to his delight. This reunion was cut short when Akasha took him. Gabrielle gathered with the rest of the remaining vampires at Maharet's house. But she kept a very closed mind and was distant and cold. She made it perfectly clear that she was not interested in any of them and that the only thing important to her was Lestat. After Lestat returned, Gabrielle stayed with him for a short time again before she felt the need to move on and be by herself again. She had bought a home to be near Lestat but hardly ever stayed there. |
